35/3.5 Zeiss Herar for Contax

The 35/3.5 Herar was an attempt to produce a less expensive alternative to the 35mm Biogon. It was a five elements in two groups design, and coated and uncoated lenses lenses have been found, as well as examples in Leica thread. They may have considered producing this without coating as the small number of air spaces wouldn't benefit from coating as much as a more complex design. Produced in 1938, serial numbers suggest a production of less than 500 units, although it most likely was produced in numbers much smaller than that based on its scarcity today>
