The 50/2.8 Tessar was introduced not long after the original 50/3.5 Tessar in 1932. It was not as sharp as the 3.5, and it was changed optically in 1934. It was first offered in black and nickel, and then in chrome to match the Contax II and III. It was discontinued in 1939
