Zeiss Ikon

Contaflex 126

Contaflex 126 in chrome.

When Zeiss took over Voigtlander they acquired several new camera designs. One was the Icarex 126, a SLR using the much-maligned Instant load 126 cartridges. It was renamed the Contaflex 126, and put into production in 1970.

It had an odd mix of features, focal plane shutter and TTL metering, yet speeds limited from 1/30th to 1/500th, with no bulb or time. It had the widest range of lenses, which were completely removable, from 25 to 200mm.

In spite of doubts as to the ability of the 126 cartridge to hold the film flat, and the fact that production ceased in 1973, these cameras are quite common even today. They were available in chrome and black finish, the black less common than the chrome. The product number was 10.1102.
