Most M4-2 cameras were assembled in Canada, although some were marked Wetzlar, and some have both German and Canadian engraving. The very earliest M4-2's have a red Leitz logo on the front.
One thousand M4-2's were issued in gold finish with black lizard skin to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Oskar Barnack's birth. These cameras are engraved with his signature and the dates 1879-1979.
