Tenax (35mm)

A series of 35mm cameras for 24 x 24, with Compur shutter. A folding Tenax, from right after the merger (1927) may also be found. They will not be covered in this section.

Tenax I (570/27)

The first version of this series of cameras, introduced in 1930, and discontinued in 1941. Simple folding viewfinder, shutter is cocked, and fired by an arm next to the lens. Marked "Tenax" under the lens on the shutter face. Novar 35/3.5. $

Tenax I (East German)

A version of the Tenax I was made in East Germany before and during the legal battles over the rights to the trademarks used by the separated Zeiss entities. Available with Tessar 37.5/3.5, and possibly the Novar, the easiest way to distinguish them is that the postwar cameras have flash synch and coated lenses. Late models of this camera have a tubular, rather than folding viewfinder. 1948-53. $

Tenax II (570/27)

Tenax II, with 40/2.8 Tessar

The final version of this camera has a coupled rangefinder, and interchangeable lenses. Each lens has a rotating wedge rangefinder prism attached to the lens mount. 1937-41. $$$

Lenses for the Tenax II

Lenses are in a special mount for this model only, and also have a built in arm with the rotating rangefinder wedge. Both are very difficult to find, require separate viewfinders that are also specific to this camera, and are valued at $$$$.

27/4.5 Orthometer -wide angle lens
75/4 Sonnar -telephoto

Tenax Automatic (10.0651)

Tenax Automatic

A postwar camera resurecting the Tenax name yet again. This one is full frame, with a selenium cell and automatic exposure control. Tessar 50/2.8 in Prontomat-S. No rangefinder. $
