Asahi

Asahi began camera manufacture in the early 1950's, and still make Pentax cameras today.

Asahiflex I

The first Japanese SLR. Like all Asahiflexes, it is marked "Asahiflex" on the front above the lens and has a fixed waist level finder as well as a simple eyelevel viewfinder next to it. Identified by a single flash post on the front of the camera, all later models having two. $$$

All other models with waist level finder are valued the same. $$
A few of the later models of Pentax were sold with the Asahiflex nameplate to avoid copyright infringements on the name Pentax. I personally know of one camera that came from a PX in Libya back when we were on good terms with them. $$$

Pentax Original

This camera can be identified by the slow speed dial on the front of the camera, and a lack of any letter engraved under the serial number on the top plate. Available in both chrome and black paint finish

This camera is very similar to the Original, but has a different shutter speed progression, and is marked with an "S" beneath the serial number. Available in both chrome and black paint finish

Pentax K

Still retaining the slow speed dial on the front, the K became the first Pentax with an automatic diaphram Identified with a "K" under the serial number. Available in both chrome and black paint finish

Pentax Spotmatic Motor Drive Camera

Like a regular Spotmatic, but has "MOTOR DRIVE" engaved on the front edge of the baseplate.
